I agree with your argument, but this point is more complex. Our system prevents politicians and leaders from listening to the public and doing what they want, because one Senator can filibuster anything, one state Attorney General can sue to block a law, etc. Some stuff like that prevents tyrannies of the majority, but we're allowing tyrannies of the minority to dominate. I've been saying for years, though, that "the left is the middle," because most people want progressive policies if they're presented as neutral ideas rather than the policies of those evil Democrats and SJWs.
