I’m with you except for this point. Isn’t it another type of fundamentalism to insist that someone can’t make this choice for him or herself? I can understand that any suggestion of celibacy could be triggering for people beaten over the head with it (and to be clear, I do NOT think gay people should be celibate), but it’s hard for me to say someone (straight or gay) can’t choose celibacy for themselves if they want to. I suppose one could object based on the belief that they’ve been bullied or indoctrinated into it. And maybe some have been. But should we assume that’s true of all who make this choice or merely affirm the right to make it? I’m trying to understand, as you can probably tell.
