Robert, thank you for your thoughtful comment. I certainly didn't mean any offense, and I don't think soldiers are motivated by pride/shame. I just think most Americans today don't care much about a war ("what war?") until it makes the country look bad. By the way, let's not assume what other people do or don't experience in terms of shame.
