Thank you, Allen, for the read, highlights, and responses! I'm not a historian, but it's my understanding that the ancient world didn't have a social space or category for gay marriage. While there were gay relationships, sexual encounters, and prostitution, there weren't committed same-sex couples living out their relationships openly (there may be exceptions, of course, but I'm speaking in generalities). So, it makes sense to me that the writings and teachings of the time, including the bible, wouldn't mention a type of relationship that just wasn't on the audience's radar or that the audience didn't have a mental category for.
