Thank you for reading, first off. Respectfully, a lot depends on translation. The version you quote uses "hell," the NIV uses "hades." The parable also seems to concern the treatment of the poor and Jesus and the lack of belief in him, even after his resurrection, than presenting a literal depiction of the afterlife. One thing's for certain, though. We're all just doing our best. :)
