You made 2021 a success for my writing
In June 2020, I joined the Medium Partner Program and started getting serious about writing on Medium.
In January 2021, I set two goals:
- Reach 1000 Followers
- Earn $100/month consistently
I hoped these goals would provide some extra motivation when I needed it and, more importantly, define what “success on Medium” would like for me.
With so many authors writing on Medium about gaining thousands of followers and earning thousands of dollars, I didn’t want to fall into the trap of giving up because I felt like a failure in comparison.
I wanted to define “success” for myself.
Why did I define “success” in terms of followers and income?
Because I write primarily to impact people. The more followers for my writing, the more impact it can have.
The more time people spend reading my writing, the more income I make through the Partner Program. MPP income indicates impact.
And I hoped to pay for my own Medium membership and have some extra spending money on the side, maybe go out for a couple nice meals a month.
As of this writing, I have surpassed both goals!
- I have 1264 followers.
- I’ve averaged $327 per month.
What’s more, I managed this during a year in which Medium’s algorithm changes sparked universal frustrations for its more established authors.
So — thank you!
