Well, Biden’s SC nomination isn’t only about race. Rice isn’t a Democrat or Progressive, so it wouldn’t make sense for a Democratic president to nominate her. I agree that there’s a lot of “someone who will vote in my interest” calculation to the Supreme Court, but I would argue there’s not a moral equivalence between how Republicans and Democrats make that calculation — at least not based on history thus far.
